Yashima Gakutei
Yashima Gakutei (1786–1868) was a Japanese artist known for his ukiyo-e woodblock prints and paintings during the late Edo period. Born in Edo (now Tokyo), Gakutei initially trained as a samurai before pursuing a career in art. He studied under the ukiyo-e master Hokusai, and his work was heavily influenced by Hokusai's style. Gakutei's prints often depicted scenes of everyday life in Edo, including landscapes, portraits, and genre scenes. He was particularly skilled at creating humorous and satirical prints, as well as bijin-ga (images of beautiful women).
