About the piece

Edward Atkinson Hornel

Edward Atkinson Hornel was a Scottish painter associated with the Glasgow Boys, a group of artists known for their innovative approach to painting in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Hornel was particularly renowned for his depictions of children and floral landscapes, often set in the lush countryside of Scotland. Influenced by Japanese prints and the decorative arts, his works are characterised by their vibrant colours, intricate patterns, and luminous quality. Hornel's art captured the idyllic beauty of rural life and celebrated the innocence of childhood, earning him recognition as one of Scotland's most important artists of his time.
