About the artist
Toyohara Kunichika (1835–1900) was a prominent Japanese ukiyo-e artist during the late Edo and Meiji periods. He was renowned for his actor prints and kabuki theater scenes, displaying a mastery of woodblock printing techniques. Kunichika's vivid and detailed depictions of actors in dramatic roles captured the essence of kabuki theater, making him one of the leading artists of his time.
