About the artist

Takeuchi Seiho
1864—1942
Takeuchi Seiho was a celebrated Japanese painter during the Meiji and Taisho periods. He was renowned for his mastery of traditional Japanese painting styles, particularly the Nihonga genre, which emphasised the use of traditional materials and techniques. Seiho's art often featured nature, birds, and flowers, with meticulous attention to detail. As a teacher at the Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting, he influenced many aspiring artists and played a pivotal role in preserving and evolving the traditions of Japanese painting into the modern era. His work continues to be highly regarded in the world of Japanese art.
