About the artist

Suzuki Harunobu
1725—1770
Suzuki Harunobu was a prominent Japanese ukiyo-e artist, renowned for pioneering the development of full-colour woodblock printing known as nishiki-e. His work is celebrated for its delicate and refined depictions of bijin-ga (beautiful women), as well as scenes of daily life, classical literature, and seasonal themes. Harunobu's prints are characterised by their elegant compositions, graceful figures, and sophisticated use of colour and pattern. He played a crucial role in elevating the technical and artistic standards of ukiyo-e, influencing many subsequent artists.
