Om konstnären
Theo van Hoytema was a Dutch illustrator, lithographer, and graphic artist best known for his exquisite depictions of birds and natural subjects. Influenced by Art Nouveau, he created richly detailed lithographs that captured the delicate beauty of animals and plants. Van Hoytema gained particular acclaim for his illustrated books and calendars, including The Ugly Duckling and The Book of Birds, where his skilful use of line and colour brought warmth and character to each illustration. His work reflected both scientific observation and artistic elegance, establishing him as one of the Netherlands’ foremost naturalist illustrators and a key figure in Dutch graphic art.
