Ito Jakuchu
1716—1800Ito Jakuchu was a renowned Japanese painter celebrated for his detailed depictions of nature, particularly birds and flowers, during the Edo period. Drawing inspiration from Chinese painting styles, Jakuchu developed a unique approach characterised by meticulous detail, vibrant colours, and a profound sense of realism. His most iconic work, the "Colorful Realm of Living Beings," is a series of 30 vertical hanging scrolls showcasing his masterful technique. While he was primarily recognised posthumously, today, Jakuchu is celebrated as one of Japan's most innovative and original artistic talents.
