Jules Bastien-Lepage
1848—1884Jules Bastien-Lepage was a French painter known for his innovative approach to naturalism and his contributions to the Realist movement. Born in Damvillers, France, Bastien-Lepage studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was influenced by the Barbizon School painters. He became known for his sensitive and realistic portrayals of rural life and peasant subjects, often depicting them in their natural environments. Bastien-Lepage's paintings are characterised by their meticulous attention to detail, subtle use of light and shadow, and psychological depth.
