Torii Kotondo
1900—1976Torii Kotondo was a Japanese artist renowned for his bijin-ga (portraits of beautiful women) within the shin-hanga movement. Born Saitō Akira in Tokyo, he was adopted by Torii Kiyotada IV, the seventh head of the Torii school, and trained in traditional ukiyo-e techniques. Kotondo's works are celebrated for their elegance, meticulous detail, and the serene beauty of his subjects. His 21 bijin-ga prints, produced between 1927 and 1933, are highly valued by collectors and exemplify the fusion of traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern sensibilities.
