Ernst Haeckel was a German biologist, naturalist, and philosopher who is best known for his work in the field of evolutionary biology. He was a key figure in the development of the theory of evolution and popularised the concept of Darwinism in Germany. Haeckel's contributions to the field of biology included the discovery of many new species, as well as the development of the concept of "ecology." He was also an accomplished artist and illustrated many of his own scientific publications, creating beautiful and detailed images of the organisms he studied.
