John Henry Twachtman was an American painter known for his contributions to American Impressionism and Tonalism. Born in Ohio, Twachtman studied at the Munich Academy in Germany before returning to the United States. He was a prominent member of the group known as "The Ten," a circle of American Impressionist painters. Twachtman's works often depicted landscapes, particularly scenes of rural New England, which he painted with a subtle, atmospheric quality. He was known for his delicate brushwork, muted colours, and emphasis on capturing the effects of light and atmosphere.
