Tomikichiro Tokuriki
1902—2000Tomikichiro Tokuriki was a Japanese artist renowned for his contributions to both the shin-hanga and sosaku-hanga movements. Born in Kyoto, he hailed from a lineage of artists dating back to the Keichō era (1596–1615). Tokuriki's work is celebrated for its vibrant depictions of traditional Japanese landscapes and cityscapes, particularly scenes of Kyoto and Mount Fuji. He adeptly blended classical woodblock techniques with modern aesthetics, capturing Japan's natural beauty and cultural heritage. Beyond his artistic creations, Tokuriki was instrumental in promoting the sosaku-hanga movement, emphasising the artist's direct involvement in all stages of printmaking.
