Goyo Hashiguchi
1880—1921Goyō Hashiguchi was a Japanese painter and printmaker known for his exquisite bijin-ga (beautiful women) prints. He was a key figure in the shin-hanga ("new prints") movement, which sought to revive and modernise traditional Japanese woodblock printing techniques. Hashiguchi's prints often depicted elegant women in fashionable attire, rendered with meticulous detail and delicate shading. His masterful compositions and sophisticated use of colour contributed to the popularity of shin-hanga prints both in Japan and abroad. Despite his short career, Hashiguchi's legacy as a master printmaker remains influential in the world of Japanese art.
