Detailed print showing examples of the varied architecture of the charming village of Alfriston in East Sussex, in the valley of the River Cuckmere in the Wealden South Downs. Mentioned in the Domesday Book Alfriston boasts many historic buildings including St. Andrew’s Church, known as the Cathedral of the South Downs, the Star Inn, originally a religious hostel built in 1345, and The Clergy House which was the first property bought by The National Trust in 1896. The village was once home to a gang of smugglers whose leader was transported to Australia in 1830.
