About the artist
Shiro Kasamatsu
1898—1991
Shiro Kasamatsu was a prominent Japanese artist known for his woodblock prints, particularly those depicting landscapes, cityscapes, and traditional Japanese scenes. He was associated with the shin-hanga ("new prints") movement, which sought to revive and modernize traditional Japanese woodblock printing techniques. Kasamatsu's prints often featured serene landscapes, historic landmarks, and everyday life in Japan, rendered with meticulous detail and vibrant colours. He was skilled in capturing the beauty of changing seasons and the harmony between nature and human activity.
