About the artist
Joaquín Sorolla was a Spanish painter known for his luminous and vibrant depictions of Spanish landscapes, seascapes, and people. Born in Valencia, Sorolla trained at the Academy of San Carlos in Valencia and later in Madrid. He gained international recognition for his mastery of light and colour, which he applied to capture the essence of everyday life in Spain. Sorolla's works often portrayed scenes of beaches, gardens, and the countryside, as well as portraits and genre scenes. His loose and fluid brushwork, combined with his ability to convey the play of light on surfaces, imbued his paintings with a sense of spontaneity and vitality.
