About the artist

Louis Vivin
1861—1936
Louis Vivin was a French painter associated with the Naïve art movement. A self-taught artist, Vivin began painting seriously after retiring from his job as a postal worker. His work is characterised by a charming and meticulous depiction of urban and rural scenes, often featuring Parisian architecture, street scenes, and landscapes. Despite his lack of formal training, Vivin's paintings display a keen sense of detail, vibrant colours, and a unique, simplistic style. His art gained recognition and appreciation posthumously, contributing to the appreciation of Naïve art.
