About the artist
Koka Yamamura (1885-1942) was a distinguished Japanese woodblock print artist, renowned for his contributions to the shin-hanga movement, which aimed to revitalise traditional ukiyo-e art with modern sensibilities. Known for his refined and delicate style, Yamamura's works often featured beautiful women (bijin-ga), kabuki actors, and landscapes. His prints are characterised by their elegant compositions, subtle colour palettes, and meticulous attention to detail. Collaborating with prominent publishers like Watanabe Shozaburo, Yamamura played a crucial role in bridging traditional Japanese art with contemporary tastes.
