About the artist
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880–1938) was a leading figure in the German Expressionist movement, co-founding the artist group "Die Brücke" (The Bridge). His art, characterized by bold colors and jagged forms, captured the anxieties and innovations of early 20th-century urban life. Kirchner's works often explored themes of modernity, primitivism, and the human psyche. Though initially celebrated, his art faced criticism under the Nazi regime, being labeled "degenerate." Despite personal and societal challenges, Kirchner's profound influence endures in the realm of modern art.
