About the artist
Mary Cassatt was an American painter and printmaker celebrated for her intimate depictions of domestic life and the bond between mother and child. Residing in France for much of her life, Cassatt became the only American officially associated with the Impressionist movement. Influenced by her contemporaries, including Edgar Degas, she developed a unique style characterised by its tender portrayals, bold compositions, and delicate colour palettes. Cassatt's works, which often championed the lives and experiences of women, solidified her place as one of the leading artists of the 19th century.
