About the artist
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901) was a seminal French painter and illustrator, famed for capturing the spirited nightlife and entertainment of Belle Époque Paris. With a distinctive style characterized by bold lines and flattened forms, he immortalized the characters of Montmartre's cabarets, theaters, and brothels, including the Moulin Rouge. Despite facing physical health challenges, Toulouse-Lautrec's prolific output encompassed posters, prints, and paintings that encapsulated the era's vibrancy. His work remains emblematic of Parisian bohemia at the turn of the 20th century.
