About the artist
Egon Schiele
1890—1918
Egon Schiele was an Austrian expressionist painter known for his raw and provocative style. A protégé of Gustav Klimt, Schiele's works delved into themes of sexuality, existentialism, and the human form, often marked by sharp lines and emotive use of colour. His portraits and self-portraits displayed intense introspection and a stark departure from traditional aesthetics. Though his life was tragically cut short by the Spanish flu at age 28, Schiele's bold artistic contributions have left an enduring impact on 20th-century art.
