About the artist
Robert Walker Macbeth (1848–1910) was a Scottish painter associated with the Glasgow Boys, a group of artists known for their innovative approach to painting in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Glasgow, Macbeth studied at the Glasgow School of Art and later in Paris. He became known for his sensitive and atmospheric depictions of rural life, particularly scenes of Scottish landscapes and peasant subjects. Macbeth's works are characterised by their loose brushwork, subtle use of colour, and emphasis on capturing the effects of light and atmosphere. He was also a successful illustrator, contributing to various publications and journals.
