About the artist
Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797–1861) was a prolific Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print artist during the Edo period. Celebrated for his innovative and dynamic compositions, Kuniyoshi excelled in depicting warriors, folklore, and kabuki actors. His mastery of line work and imaginative designs made him a leading figure in the Utagawa school.
