About the artist
Uehara Konen (1878-1940) was a prominent Japanese artist known for his contributions to the shin-hanga movement, which sought to revitalise traditional ukiyo-e art with modern influences. His work is celebrated for its exquisite landscapes and nature scenes, characterised by their serene beauty, detailed compositions, and subtle colour palettes. Konen's prints often depicted seasonal changes, capturing the tranquil beauty of Japan's natural scenery with a poetic sensibility. His ability to blend traditional techniques with a contemporary touch made his work highly regarded during his lifetime and continues to be appreciated today.
