About the artist
George Ashdown Audsley (1838–1925) was a British architect, artist, and writer known for his work in the field of decorative arts and design. Born in Scotland, Audsley moved to London and later emigrated to the United States. He was highly regarded for his expertise in architectural design, particularly in the Gothic Revival style, and he contributed to the design of numerous churches, public buildings, and private residences. Audsley was also an accomplished illustrator and writer, producing works on topics ranging from architecture and design to heraldry and typography. He collaborated with his brother, William James Audsley, on several influential publications, including "The Handbook of Christian Symbolism" and "The Art of Chromolithography."
