About the artist
Furuya Korin (1875–1910) was a Japanese artist renowned for his contributions to the shin-hanga ("new prints") movement. He excelled in creating woodblock prints, particularly those featuring beautiful women, landscapes, and historical themes. Korin's works combined traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern elements, showcasing meticulous details and vibrant colours. He was known for his collaboration with publishers like Watanabe Shozaburo, which helped popularise shin-hanga both in Japan and internationally. Korin's art remains celebrated for its blending of tradition and innovation, preserving the beauty of Japanese culture in a rapidly changing world.
