About the artist
André Derain (1880–1954) was a French painter and co-founder of the Fauvist movement, known for his vibrant use of color and bold, expressive brushstrokes. Alongside artists like Henri Matisse, Derain revolutionized early 20th-century art by rejecting naturalistic representation in favor of heightened, emotional color schemes. His works often depicted landscapes, cityscapes, and still lifes, with a focus on light and color contrasts.
