About the artist
August Macke (1887–1914) was a German Expressionist painter known for his vibrant use of colour and innovative approach to form. A prominent member of the Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) group, Macke's art captured the spirit of the early 20th century avant-garde movement. His works often depicted scenes of modern life, including landscapes, portraits, and cityscapes, infused with a sense of spontaneity and vitality. Tragically, Macke's promising career was cut short when he was killed in action during World War I at the age of 27.
