About the artist
Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist who is credited with pioneering abstract art. He was a key figure in the development of the Expressionist movement, and his art was characterized by its use of bold colors and abstract, geometric forms. Kandinsky believed that art should be able to evoke spiritual experiences in its viewers, and he developed a complex theory of color and form that underpinned his artistic practice.
