About the artist
George Henry Durrie (1820–1863) was an American painter known for his charming depictions of winter landscapes, particularly scenes of rural New England. Born in Connecticut, Durrie primarily worked in the medium of oil painting and gained popularity during the mid-19th century for his tranquil and nostalgic winter scenes. His paintings often feature snow-covered landscapes, quaint villages, and picturesque farmhouses, capturing the peaceful beauty of the countryside during the winter months. Durrie's works became widely reproduced as prints, and they remain beloved for their idyllic portrayal of rural life in 19th-century America.
