Willard Metcalf
1858—1925Willard Leroy Metcalf was an American Impressionist painter known for his luminous landscapes and scenes of rural life. Born in Massachusetts, Metcalf studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and later in Paris, where he was influenced by French Impressionism. He was associated with the group known as the "Ten American Painters," who sought to promote Impressionism in the United States. Metcalf's works often depicted the New England countryside, capturing the effects of light and atmosphere with loose brushwork and vibrant colours. He also painted scenes of urban life and figures, imbuing his works with a sense of tranquility and nostalgia.
