Modest Urgell

Modest Urgell i Inglada (1839–1919) was a Catalan painter known for his atmospheric landscapes and genre scenes. Born in Barcelona, Urgell studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid before traveling extensively throughout Europe. He was deeply influenced by the Barbizon School and the Impressionists, and his works often depict tranquil rural landscapes, coastal scenes, and everyday life in Catalonia. Urgell's paintings are characterised by their soft, luminous light, delicate brushwork, and subtle use of colour.
