Arthur Melville was a Scottish artist known for his innovative and adventurous approach to watercolour painting. Born in Angus, Scotland, Melville studied at the Royal Scottish Academy and later traveled extensively, drawing inspiration from his journeys to Spain, Morocco, and the Middle East. He became known for his vibrant and atmospheric watercolours, which often depicted scenes of exotic landscapes, bustling marketplaces, and vibrant street life. Melville's bold use of colour, dynamic compositions, and loose brushwork set him apart from his contemporaries and helped to redefine the possibilities of watercolour as a medium.
