Utagawa Toyokuni was a prominent Japanese ukiyo-e artist and printmaker of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Renowned for his bijin-ga (images of beautiful women) and kabuki actor prints, Toyokuni was a central figure in the Utagawa school of ukiyo-e. His works showcased exquisite details, fine lines, and rich colours, capturing the essence of Edo-period culture. Toyokuni's influence extended to subsequent generations of ukiyo-e artists, and his art remains highly regarded for its artistic mastery and its role in shaping the ukiyo-e tradition during a pivotal period in Japanese history.
