About the artist
Ogata Korin (1658–1716) was a distinguished Japanese artist known for his significant contributions to the Rinpa school of painting during the Edo period. Drawing inspiration from classical courtly art, Korin developed a distinctive style characterized by bold designs, striking color contrasts, and a decorative approach. His iconic works, such as the "Irises" and "Red and White Plum Blossoms" folding screens, display his innovative composition techniques. Korin's legacy extends beyond painting, influencing various art forms like lacquerware and ceramics. His profound impact on Japanese art is memorialized through the "Korin" design style named in his honor.
