About the artist
Mark Rothko was a Latvian-American painter and a key figure in the Abstract Expressionist movement. He is known for his large-scale, colour field paintings that often feature floating rectangular shapes in muted or intense colours. Rothko's work is marked by its emotional depth and spirituality, and he sought to create a sense of transcendence in his viewers through his art.
