Jamini Roy
1887—1972Jamini Roy was an Indian painter known for his unique blend of traditional Indian folk art with modernist influences. Rejecting the academic style he had learned in art school, Roy turned to indigenous art forms for inspiration. His works often featured bold lines, flat colours, and stylised forms reminiscent of Bengal folk art. Roy's art celebrated the simplicity and vitality of rural life, and he became one of the most prominent figures in the Bengal School of Art.
